The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting innovators for its Innovations Challenge/Hackathon under the theme “Weather and Climate Information for Planning”, that aims at developing innovative solutions for converting the available weather and climate data into useful weather and climate information and/or solutions that will facilitate efficient dissemination of weather and climate information to the end users.
Climate change and climate variability have presented a number of challenges for both commercial and small-holder farmers throughout Uganda, including access to reliable weather and climate information for planning and production processes.
Award Information
The top three winning teams will receive prizes up to a maximum of 3 Million Uganda Shilling:
- The developers demonstrate an understanding of UNMA’s challenges.
- An intuitive application, i.e. the flow of application makes sense and is clear and easy to use at first glance.
- High quality of the proposed application/solutions with high impact on end users.
- The application demonstrates sustainability in terms of its life-cycle.
- The application utilizes a well-established open source.
- Cost effectiveness and scalability of the solution.
- Clarity of the implementation plan (the team developing that application should provide an API support/documentation for other people to pick up).
- The proposed application provides more than one solution/ benefits to the users.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the Innovations Challenge/Hackathon, the innovators must meet the following criteria:
- Be youth below 30 year of age.
- Have basic experience in programming applications.
- Form a team of between 3 to 5 youth.
- Must have submitted their proposal by the 22nd May 2017. Late submission will not be accepted.
- The proposal should be not more than 8 pages excluding annexes and should be of font Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5, alignment justified, portrait orientation for text, A4 size.
