Deadline: 15-Oct-2025
The Northern Youth Cultural Fund (NYCF) provides funding for cultural, artistic, and creative activities for children and youth aged 4 to 19 within the Northern District. Delivered in partnership with the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District (NSCRD), the fund aims to create opportunities for youth to engage in meaningful cultural experiences in their communities.
The fund supports initiatives that give children and youth access to life-changing cultural programs regardless of financial barriers. It helps ensure all youth can participate in creative activities like drama, art, dance, music, and traditional cultural practices. The program also recognizes the importance of cultural programming in building healthy, vibrant communities.
Funding of up to $5,000 is available per project. Activities can include various forms of art, heritage learning, traditional crafts, theatre, music lessons, and specialized camps that focus on cultural education. These experiences must provide active and interactive cultural engagement, rather than passive entertainment.
Priority is given to projects that promote equitable access across the Northern District, those not already receiving significant Sask Lotteries support, and those aligned with Truth and Reconciliation or other reconciliation efforts.
Certain activities and expenses are not eligible. Projects primarily focused on sports, fitness, religion, or science are excluded. Programming during school hours and activities like coding, art therapy, or technical training not centered around culture are also ineligible. Expenses such as operating costs, capital purchases, passive entertainment, alcohol, and fundraising efforts are not supported.
Eligible applicants include registered non-profits in Saskatchewan with a cultural mandate, First Nations, Tribal Councils, municipalities, schools, libraries, or Friendship Centres located within the Northern District. These organizations must have operated as a registered non-profit for at least one year and be in good standing with SaskCulture and Sask Lotteries.
Ineligible applicants include individuals, districts for sport or culture, organizations receiving annual global funding, those with outstanding grant reports, and those already funded by SaskCulture or Sask Lotteries in the past year. All funded activities must take place within the boundaries of the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District.
