Deadline: 21-Sep-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is supporting an important initiative in the Dominican Republic aimed at protecting children and women in vulnerable situations.
The program will focus on several provinces, including La Romana, Elias Piña, Azua, Pedernales, Santiago, El Seibo, Barahona, La Altagracia, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, and Monte Plata. These areas have been identified as key locations where protective measures are urgently needed to address violence, insecurity, and the challenges faced by migrant communities.
The initiative seeks to strengthen both protection and well-being by addressing violence against children and gender-based violence. At its core, the program will promote community resilience through awareness campaigns, the creation of safe spaces, and the training of volunteers. This multifaceted approach will ensure that local communities not only have access to critical services but also build the capacity to respond effectively in times of crisis.
One of the main components of the project is the implementation of community-wide awareness campaigns aimed at preventing violence against children and women. These efforts are expected to reach around 4,000 people, building greater understanding and fostering prevention strategies at the local level.
The program also emphasizes the importance of creating inclusive, child-friendly, and safe community spaces. These spaces will provide vulnerable groups with information on services, prevention measures, and opportunities to build support networks. The initiative aims to directly benefit 800 children and adolescents across at least 18 communities.
In addition, specialized training will be offered to community volunteers to strengthen their capacity to identify and respond to cases of violence. By following established protocols and developing skills to manage safe spaces, volunteers will be better equipped to address the needs of the most at-risk groups, particularly migrants. At least 20 facilitators and volunteers will be trained through this process, ensuring long-term sustainability of the project.
The program is backed by an indicative budget of 120,000.00, which will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of activities across all targeted provinces. This funding underscores the commitment to building safer, more inclusive, and more resilient communities that can better protect children and women in times of crisis.
