Deadline: 31-Jul-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is inviting applications from current or prospective partners to support the development of youth-led and women-led civil society organizations (CSOs) and to implement the Furaha Teens parenting programme.
This opportunity is open specifically to national NGOs in Tanzania with proven experience and expertise in strengthening community-based organizations. Applicants must have a background in adolescent empowerment, gender equality, violence prevention, education, skills training, or digital learning. The NGO should also have experience working with government structures at sub-national levels in both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
UNICEF aims to engage a capable and committed national NGO or a consortium of NGOs to achieve two interlinked goals. The first is to build the institutional and programmatic capacity of youth– and women-led CSOs in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Songwe. The second is to support the roll-out of the Furaha Teens parenting programme in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
The total funding available for this initiative is USD 400,000. Of this, USD 375,000 is allocated for child protection, and USD 25,000 is allocated for CSO capacity strengthening in Songwe.
Key activities for capacity building include mapping relevant CSOs in the selected regions, conducting capacity assessments, and organizing training sessions to strengthen skills in advocacy, leadership, financial management, and more. A competitive process will select 15 out of 30 CSOs to receive seed funding between USD 5,000–10,000 to implement community or school-based projects.
To implement Furaha Teens, the selected NGO will organize planning meetings, train facilitators and coaches, and support programme delivery over 9-week waves. Each group of 40 beneficiaries will meet weekly for two-hour sessions led by trained facilitators, with ongoing coaching and technical support.
An annual review meeting will be held with government and key stakeholders from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar to assess progress and share insights.
The expected outcome is that CSOs in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Songwe will have improved capacity to support adolescents and combat gender-based violence. Additionally, Furaha Teens will promote positive parenting and contribute to adolescent well-being across the targeted regions.
