Deadline: 18-Sep-2025
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is seeking grant applications to enhance access to quality education for refugee and asylum-seeking children and youth across Malaysia.
This initiative, a Call for Expression of Interest, seeks to expand and improve education from primary through tertiary levels, with a focus on inclusion and protection. The program will be implemented across a number of states, including Putrajaya, Perak, Pahang, Perlis, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Johor.
The core objective is to ensure that refugee children and youth have increased access to safe and inclusive learning environments. The initiative aims to support a significant number of students, with targets to enroll 15,000 in primary education, 4,000 in secondary education, and 300 in tertiary education. This will be achieved through the establishment of learning centers and partnerships that promote enrollment, retention, and completion of studies.
Partners will be tasked with managing learning centers for both primary and secondary levels, with a curriculum that follows either the Malaysian national curriculum or another recognized syllabus. For older adolescents, secondary education will also include vocational and skills-based programs to provide practical, market-relevant skills. Additionally, the program will facilitate access to tertiary education by providing guidance, securing scholarships, and leading advocacy and fundraising efforts. The overall goal is to advance the inclusion of refugees and asylum-seekers into the national education system, equipping them with the skills they need for a better future.
