Deadline: 18-Aug-2025
UNICEF has announced a call for applications to implement a local management model aimed at reducing chronic childhood malnutrition in selected parishes of Chimborazo Province, Ecuador. The focus is on improving child health and nutrition, with targeted actions to prevent and treat malnutrition.
The initiative centers on strengthening intersectoral coordination by providing technical assistance for implementing the Methodological Guide to establish Parish Intersectoral Roundtables (MIP) in seven parishes. A key expected outcome is a document based on a rapid assessment, outlining technical support and capacity-building roadmaps for Health Districts 06D02 and 06D01.
The project also includes implementing eight parish-level social and behavioral change (SC&B) plans using UNICEF’s practical methodology, titled Children with a future, this cause is the best. A detailed work plan will guide the implementation of these local SC&B strategies.
Technical assistance will be documented through a systematization report that covers participatory diagnostics, material distribution, activity execution, and capacity strengthening at institutional, social, and community levels.
Community actors will be trained to recognize risk factors and identify cases of chronic childhood malnutrition (ICD). They will also coordinate with first-level health services using a prioritized package of goods and services. A work plan will guide technical support for this process, including a strategy to recruit or reactivate community monitors with local legitimacy.
This plan will include capacity building for health district surveillance personnel and community monitors. It will also propose strategies to ensure sustainability and continued engagement of community monitors in each parish.
Applicants will be assessed based on realistic timelines and planning, clarity of proposed activities and outcomes, sector-specific expertise, and local experience. Contributions of resources will also be taken into account during the selection process.
