Enabel Uganda has launched a new portfolio aimed at empowering young people and women to become economically independent and active citizens in a sustainable society that respects human rights and provides quality services.
This Call for Proposals focuses on three key result areas. First, it aims to establish a holistic management system in schools for providing and maintaining bicycles for students. The goal is to improve school attendance, particularly for girls, by addressing mobility and safety challenges. Second, it supports increasing the efficiency of Community Health Workers (CHWs) by providing bicycles to help them reach remote households more effectively. Third, it seeks to evaluate the impact of these interventions on student performance, retention, and the effectiveness of CHWs.
The initiative is built on two main pillars. One is to empower youth, especially women, by equipping them with technical and vocational skills for decent work in agriculture and the green economy. The other is to ensure access to safe and quality education and healthcare, especially for vulnerable groups like children, girls, women, and refugees.
Grants under this call must range between 250,000 EUR and 350,000 EUR. Specifically, under the health component, at least 50,000 EUR must be directed to Kamuli district. The proposed project should last between 18 and 24 months.
Expected outcomes include schools being able to manage and maintain bicycles, improved school attendance and safety for girls, and expanded coverage by CHWs leading to more household visits. The project will also include research to evaluate how these interventions affect education and health outcomes.
To be eligible, applicants must be legal, non-profit or non-commercial entities, such as NGOs or foundations, established or represented in Uganda. They must also be directly responsible for implementing the action and have had an active bank account for at least the past 12 months.
