The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched a blended Career Guidance Program in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The focus of the program was on students from classes 9th to 12th across the state. Life skills education is also being conducted in schools. UNICEF is supporting school education departments in planning, resource material development, teacher training module design and training of state level master trainers on LSE in elementary schools and career guidance program in CM Rise and PM Shri schools.
The key ongoing activities are:
- sharing career-related resources through online sites, webinars, and offline materials e.g., cards, posters etc.
- Career development related skill building through online courses.
- capacity building of teachers to map local resources and experts for exposure visits.
- Webinar for experts talk for students.
- training and mentoring support to state level resource person on Life skills education in coordination with state officials. The education department has issued an annual calendar of fortnightly activities to be conducted at school with two periods allocated every month.

Expected Results
- Strengthening capacity at state level for training MTs and Teachers in secondary and higher secondary schools on Career Guidance and Monitoring:
- Develop appropriate training modules for teachers to equip them with skills to conduct career sessions with students in schools. This should cover career guidance techniques, regular, vocational & professional educational opportunities, job market information, and how to use career guidance tools and resources effectively.
- Develop a module and conduct training workshops for Master Trainers (MTs) at state level, who would in turn train career counselors/career nodal teachers at different locations.
- Design and conduct online sessions for MTs and Teachers for their skill building, about 4 sessions during the project period.
- Provide technical assistance in the development of monitoring indicators and analysis of field data on program implementation.
- Provide technical assistance to the education department in organizing progress review and planning meeting of district officials.
- Training and Development of MTs and Teachers in lower secondary schools on Life Skills Education (LSE).
- Develop training modules for teachers to equip them with skills to conduct life skills education (LSE) sessions with students in schools. This should cover understanding of LSE domain knowledge and class transaction activities.
- Conduct training workshop for Master Trainers (MTs) at state level, who would in turn train teachers at different locations. c) Conduct virtual session for Teachers on select themes as refresher, about 4 sessions during the project period.
- Online sessions for students
- Interactive online workshops on various career-related topics e.g., domain wise career planning, resume writing, interview skills, job search tools, and industry-specific knowledge sessions (about 4 sessions).
- Provide students with insights on preparation in the field e.g., internships, job shadowing opportunities, and networking connections. Invite professionals from different fields to share their experiences and insights.
- Conduct virtual sessions for students on Life Skills education (about 4 sessions).
- District level support in planning and implementation (5 selected districts).
