The Health Center Program Service Area Competition (SAC) provides grants to improve health outcomes in underserved communities across the United States and its territories. The funding supports the delivery of comprehensive and high-quality primary health care services.
For FY 2026, the SAC aims to enhance access to primary health care in both rural and urban areas by supporting health centers that play a critical role in their communities. The program aligns with the President’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, focusing on preventing and managing chronic diseases across all age groups.
Funded services include cancer screenings, mental health care, health and nutrition education, and patient support services. These services are designed to help individuals overcome barriers to health by improving access to nutritious food and essential resources.
The total expected funding available is $232 million, with 93 grants anticipated. Awards may cover one or up to four 12-month budget periods, depending on the proposal.
Eligible applicants include three main types. Competing Continuation applicants are current award recipients applying to continue services in their existing area. Competing Supplement applicants are also current recipients but plan to expand into a newly announced service area by opening new, permanent sites. New applicants are those not currently funded but wish to serve a designated service area. Health Center Program Look-Alikes can also apply as new applicants, and if funded, they will become full recipients.
Eligible organizations include nonprofits regardless of 501(c)(3) status, various levels of government within the U.S. and its territories, and Native American tribal governments or organizations. Individuals are not eligible to apply for this funding opportunity.
