Deadline: 14-Nov-2025
Cambridge City Council has launched the Grassroots Activity Grants to enable children aged 4 to 16 who live in Cambridge to take part in sport, dance, physical activity sessions or swimming lessons.
Funding of up to £250 per year is provided to cover fees associated with joining and regular weekly sessions, helping families experiencing financial hardship engage in these activities.
To qualify for the grant, children must live in Cambridge and belong to households receiving Income Support or Universal Credit. Priority is given to families whose children are currently unable to participate in after-school physical activities because of financial restrictions or who haven’t received a Grassroots Grant before. These criteria aim to direct support where it’s needed most.
There are limits on what the funding can cover: the grant cannot be used for equipment, travel expenses, private one-to-one or small group sessions, after-school clubs, or single day camps.
When an application is approved, the payment is made directly to the organisation that runs the activity rather than to the family.
This opportunity offers families with limited means a way to access regular physical activity for their children, enhancing health, engagement, and wellbeing in the Cambridge community.
