Deadline: 27-Oct-2025
The United States Department of Justice has announced a new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support the development, enhancement, or expansion of intervention programs specifically designed for female juvenile delinquents.
This initiative will provide funding for direct service programs that address the unique needs of girls in the juvenile justice system, with a strong focus on reducing reoffending and creating pathways toward stability, success, and long-term positive contributions to society.
The program seeks to reduce recidivism and risk factors while promoting protective factors through tailored services. Applicants may propose new direct service programs or enhance and expand existing prevention and early intervention initiatives. Additionally, the funding will support the development of targeted curricula for staff, including probation officers, detention center staff, law enforcement, and judges, ensuring they are equipped with the skills to implement these programs effectively.
This opportunity will provide priority consideration to applicants that align with agency funding priorities such as combating violent crime, protecting American children, supporting services to citizens, and assisting victims of trafficking and sexual assault. By targeting these broader goals, the program underscores its role in strengthening public safety while addressing the specific challenges faced by female youth offenders.
A total of $3.76 million is available under this opportunity, with an anticipated seven awards to be made. Each award may be as high as $525,000, though applicants are encouraged to propose budgets that reflect the actual needs and capacity of their projects. The period of performance will begin on October 1, 2025, and run for up to 36 months.
Eligibility is broad and includes state, county, city, and township governments, federally recognized Tribal governments, independent school districts, public and private higher education institutions, nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status, and other local government units. The funding opportunity is open across all U.S. states and territories, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
This funding represents a significant investment in reforming how communities address female juvenile delinquency, ensuring that intervention efforts are not only effective but also responsive to the unique needs of young women navigating the juvenile justice system.
