Deadline: 06-Sep-2024
The Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, is organising a two-day (Thursday 17 and Friday 18 October 2024) capacity-building workshop for African civil society organisations (CSOs) on engagement with the African human rights system.
The workshop targets African CSOs that have so far had limited or no interaction with the three core African human rights bodies, namely: the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, the African Court on Human and People’s Rights and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
The aim is to equip more African CSOs with an understanding of the African Union human rights landscape. The training will cover the key treaties and mechanisms of the African human rights system and the requirements for formal engagement with the system. The training will be facilitated by subject matter experts and practitioners drawn from academia, legal practitioners, civil society, and some of the African human rights bodies in focus.
Criteria
- Please note that there are very limited slots available and selection will consider, among other things, the applicants’ thematic focus, geographical location, gender and likelihood of engaging with the African human rights system.
- Organisations with evidence of sufficient engagement with national mechanisms and a clear plan of action for engaging with mechanisms beyond national borders are encouraged to apply. Only shortlisted candidates will be reached.
- The Centre for Human Rights will cover the following costs relating to participation in the workshop: travel, accommodation, meals, and certificates. Participants will be required to arrive at the venue of the workshop (in Pretoria, South Africa) on 16 October, attend the workshop on 17 and 18 October and depart by the morning of 19 October 2024.
