Building Blocks for Peace Foundation is pleased to announce a call for its Training of Trainers on Community Organising, Mobilisation & Non Violence Civil Resistance in West Africa.
Building Blocks for Peace Foundation (BBFORPEACE), with support from the Karibu Foundation, the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) West Africa, and the Action Group on Free Civic Space (AGFCS) is calling for applications from youth activists across five West African countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire) for a regional training aimed at strengthening the capacities of Youth Civil Society Organisations and activists to defend the youth civic space in West Africa.
Overall, the regional training aims to ensure that young people are empowered and equipped with the right skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully and non-violently to promoting and protecting civic space in West Africa.
Training Component
- Online Training on Civic Space Protection (May-July 2024): This initiative is aimed at strengthening the capacity of youth CSOs to advocate for an open and enabling civic space in West Africa;
- A Two-Day Physical Regional Workshop of Community Organising, Mobilisation and Non-Violent Civil Resistance (July/August 2024): The two-day regional training is aimed at equipping CSOs and youth activists with the skills and capacity to disrupt the ability of State & Non-State Actors to criminalise, delegitimise, surveil and intimidate those engaging in protest and also work to reform the transnational security architecture.
Eligibility Criteria
- Young person between the ages of 18 and 35
- Based in Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, or Cote d’Ivoire.
- Active member of a registered CSO or grassroots movement.
- Genuine interest in addressing and protecting the youth civic space in West Africa.
- Available to attend and participate actively in all online training sessions between May and July 2024.
- Available to travel to Abuja, Nigeria in July or early August 2024.
- Being able to work and communicate fluently in English or French.
- Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
