Deadline: 25 December 2017
The U.S. Embassy in Tunis has announced the Study of the United State Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders: Civic Engagement exchange program. The five-week program will take place in June-July 2018.
The SUSI Civic Engagement program is an intensive academic exchange that provides undergraduate students with a deeper understanding of the United States and enhances their leadership skills. The program will consist of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, lectures, educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities within the local community. The exchange includes an academic residency of approximately four weeks and a domestic study tour of approximately one week.
The Civic Engagement SUSI will provide students with an overview of how citizens have shaped U.S. history, government, and society both as individuals and groups. The program will define civic engagement, examine its development in the U.S., and explore topics such as citizenship, community building, economic development, grassroots activism, political leadership, and volunteerism. Other topics such as civil rights, entrepreneurship, ethics, leadership, and media will be discussed. Students will also have the opportunity to leave the classroom to meet with community leaders, entrepreneurs, and representatives of non-profit organizations.
