Deadline: 13-Feb-2026
The Nuestra Herencia Grant Program presents an opportunity for Latinx-led and Latinx-serving nonprofit organizations to access a total of $600,000 in funding to support heritage preservation, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.
This grant is designed to strengthen grassroots organizations that preserve and uplift Latinx cultural heritage through community-driven projects.
The grant period for funded projects begins as early as June 1, 2026. It will run through May 31, 2027, or May 31, 2028, depending on the project type. Projects under the categories of Project Planning, Building Organizational Strength, and Community Interpretation & Engagement will follow a one-year grant period. Those applying under the Capital Project category will have the flexibility to choose between a one-year or two-year grant term.
Eligible applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, which can include preservation-focused community groups, museums, cultural centers, historical societies, and historic sites. Organizations that have not yet obtained 501(c)(3) status may still participate through a fiscal sponsor. The program specifically supports Latinx-led or Latinx-serving organizations and prioritizes those with annual operating budgets under $500,000, although those with larger budgets may also be considered.
The grant does not fund general operating support such as staff salaries or indirect costs, nor does it cover expenses incurred before the grant award date. Ineligible activities include festivals, murals, K–12 education programs, food or entertainment costs, and academic research without a direct preservation outcome. Other restrictions include work on private property not open to the public, decorative interior projects, demolition, commercial property investments, new construction, and debt-related payments.
The Nuestra Herencia Grant Program serves as a vital opportunity to advance Latinx heritage preservation through tangible community projects. It supports efforts that honor cultural identity, protect historic spaces, and empower organizations to engage local communities in preserving shared history.
