Nominations are now open for the Australia Day Awards, an opportunity for the community to recognise outstanding local heroes and high achievers from all walks of life.

Categories

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Group or Organisation of the Year
  • Community Project or Event of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year Award
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Cultural Award of the Year
  • Young Cultural Award of the Year
  • Sportsperson of the Year Award
  • Young Sportsperson of the Year Award
  • STEM Award of the Year
  • Young STEM Award of the Year

Awards Ceremony

  • In 2023, two events are planned to celebrate the achievements of those nominated:

    • Nominees Recognition Ceremony – 19 January 2023 at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery
    • Australia Day Awards Presentation – 26 January 2023 at Brolga Theatre
Eligibility Criteria
  • Citizen of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Citizen of the Year Award, the nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Not have received the Citizen of the Year award in the last five years.
  • Young Citizen of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Young Citizen of the Year Award, the nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community
      • Be under the age of 26 on the 26th of January 2023.
      • Not have received the Young Citizen of the Year award in the last five years
  • Community Group or Organisation of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Community Group or Organisation of the Year award, the nominee must:

      • Be a local community group or organisation based within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area or alternatively, where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Not have received the Community Group or Organisation of the Year award in the last five years.
      • Not be a commercial or "for profit" group or organisation.
  • Community Project or Event of the Year 

    • To be eligible for the Community Event of the Year Award, the nominated project or event must:

      • Have occurred within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Local Government Area
      • Not have received the Community Event of the Year award in the last five years.
      • Not be a commercial or "for profit" event.
      • Be delivered by a community committee or not for profit group.
  • Volunteer of the Year Award

    • To be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Not have received the Volunteer of the Year Award in the last five years.
  • Young Volunteer of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Young Volunteer of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Under the age of 26 on 26 January 2023.
      • Not have received the Young Cultural or Young Citizen of the Year award in the last five years.
      • Note – Nominating a young person under the age of 18 requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
  • Cultural Award of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Cultural Award of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Not have received the Cultural Award of the Year in the last five years
  • Young Cultural Award of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Young Cultural of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Be under the age of 26 on the 26th of January 2023.
      • Not have received the Young Cultural or Young Citizen of the Year award in the last five years.
      • Note – Nominating a young person under the age of 18 requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
  • Sportsperson of the Year Award

    • To be eligible for the Sportsperson of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community
      • Not have received the Sportsperson of the Year award in the last five years
  • Young Sportsperson of the Year Award

    • To be eligible for the Young Sportsperson of the Year Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council Area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community.
      • Be under the age of 26 on the 26th of January 2023.
      • Not have received the Young Sportsperson of the Year award in the last five years.
      • Note – Nominating a young person under the age of 18 requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
  • STEM Award of the Year

    • To be eligible for the STEM Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community
      • Not have received the STEM award in the last five years
  • Young STEM Award of the Year

    • To be eligible for the Young STEM Award, The nominee must:

      • Reside within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area, or alternatively where this is not the case, the nomination must demonstrate that a significant contribution has been made by the nominee to the Fraser Coast Regional Council community and that they are considered to be part of the community
      • Be under the age of 26 on the 26th of January 2023.
      • Not have received the Young STEM award in the last five years
      • Note – Nominating a young person under the age of 18 requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
