Deadline: 18-Jul-23
The Caldera Arts is excited to announce the 2024 Artist in Residence Program to support artists, creatives, and cultural workers to build skills, relationships, and projects that inspire growth, combat oppression, and activate change.
Residents draw inspiration from the residency community and the natural world surrounding their Arts Center in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
Expanding their creative community allows us to deepen their mission to inspire and support young people from historically underrepresented urban and rural communities by awakening the potential of their creative voice.
Caldera offers 2 and 3.5-week residencies from January through March. A cohort of 5 artists/collaborations is in residence each month. Residents are responsible for travel to and from Caldera Arts Center. Caldera staff can make arrangements to pick up groceries for those without onsite transportation.
Stipends
- Stipends of $700 -$1200 will be provided to each artist/group in residence depending on the length of their residency.
Eligibility Criteria
- Residencies are open to US-based artists, creatives, and cultural workers in any discipline. Artists at any stage of their careers, who are not current students at the time of the residency, are eligible. Caldera supports collaborations of up to 4 people, as well as individuals.
- Caldera Arts has identified the following as priorities for their AiR Program, and selection is made with these in mind:
- Artists and cultural workers who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Color). Caldera’s benchmark for 2023 is for BIPOC artists to make up 90% of their residents.
- Artists and cultural workers advancing cultural and social change through their work.
- Artists who have experience working with and teaching racially/ethnically diverse groups of young people. Teaching artist applicants are invited to propose workshops, skill-share sessions, and or other public engagements during their residency.
- Parents, particularly parents of color are invited to apply.
