The World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building (TFSCB) is open for applications with an aim to improve the capacity of developing countries to produce and use statistics with an overall objective of supporting effective decision-making for development.
The TFSCB supports projects aiming at strengthening national statistical systems in priority areas and developing statistical capacity in a sustainable manner, including openness and accessibility of data in line with the Open Data Initiative and innovative approaches to improve data collection.
Funding Information
The maximum allowable budget request for a Statistical Capacity Building project is $500,000 and the maximum duration is two years, with a possibility of one year extension.
Focus Projects
- Preparation and updating of National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDS);
- Statistical Capacity Building activities in key priority areas within the framework of NSDS, regional, or global strategies, including the Busan Action Plan for Statistics (BAPS) and the post-2015 agenda; and
- Data Production in key areas aiming to fill data gaps linked to the need for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Household Surveys, National Accounts, and related activities.
Note: This type of project is currently in a PILOT mode and countries will be invited to participate.

- Management, institutional framework and coordination;
- Data user-producer dialogue;
- Human resource capacity, including training;
- Statistical methodologies;
- Data processing and quality;
- Dissemination of comprehensive, timely, accessible, and reliable economic, financial, and socio-demographic statistics;
- Openness and accessibility of data that could be achieved through improving data integrity, accessibility to data by the public, and accessibility formats;
- National capacity for poverty analysis;
- Special areas of economic and socio-demographic statistics, such as environmental accounting and gender statistics;
- Data foundation for measuring sustainable development
