Deadline: 08-Aug-2025
Applications are now open for the Aotea/Great Barrier Local and Capital Grant, which supports a wide range of projects in the fields of arts, community, environment, events, heritage, and sports and recreation.
Priority will be given to projects that protect and enhance residents’ wellbeing, promote zero-waste practices, improve resilience to climate change impacts, and support the prosperity of mana whenua.
Lower priority will be given to activities that do not align with the Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board Plan, and to applications from groups not based on the island unless they offer significant benefit to the local community. Insurance may be funded only if there is a demonstrated high need for one-time support.
The available funding includes up to $50,000 for the capital grant round and $25,000 for the local grant round.
Grants will be awarded for projects that create or improve a capital asset linked to a community facility on Aotea/Great Barrier Island. This includes buildings, infrastructure, plant, services, or equipment; upgrades or refurbishments; and improvements like alternative power systems, low-energy appliances, rainwater systems, safe drinking water, and upgraded sewage systems.
Applicants must show that the facility is available for community use and provide a record of its usage over the past 12 months, unless the facility was not operational. They must also hold or be able to obtain insurance for the asset for which the grant is requested.
