The Social Investment Fund’s Major Grants Programme is a key source of financial support for charities and not-for-profit organisations working within the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
With a focus on strengthening the long-term sustainability of the charitable sector, this programme targets funding towards initiatives that address the most pressing needs within the community.
Grants through this programme are available for applications of over £15,000, with no defined upper limit. For organisations seeking smaller amounts, the Fund’s Small Grants Programme remains the appropriate route. The flexibility of the Major Grants Programme allows funding to cover a broad range of costs, including running expenses, staff salaries, and capital investment, provided these contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s intended outcomes. Multi-year funding can also be considered, offering added security and stability for larger or longer-term projects.
Eligibility is open to registered charities and not-for-profit organisations operating within the Bailiwick. Applications are also welcomed from groups working in partnership to deliver shared goals, as well as from social enterprises—though the latter are encouraged to discuss their proposals with the Fund’s Lead Officer before applying. One-off fundraising initiatives and appropriate applications from public sector service areas supporting third sector or community projects may also be considered.
Organisations must be based in or deliver clear benefits to the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Those operating in Sark need to be registered with the Sark Registrar, while those in Alderney fall under the Guernsey Registry. For sports-related organisations, the expectation is that they will either hold or be working toward the Sports Commission’s SportsMark quality assurance award to ensure quality and accountability.
Through this programme, the Social Investment Fund aims to build a stronger, more resilient charitable sector by enabling organisations to meet local needs and deliver lasting positive impact across the islands.
