Deadline: 24-Sep-2025
The African Union (AU) Commission is inviting applications from African think tanks to join the Africa Think Tank Platform (ATTP) Project. This initiative is designed to enhance the capacity and influence of think tanks across the continent and support their role in shaping regional policy.
The project aims to build a sustainable platform for cooperation among national policymakers, regional blocs, and think tanks. It encourages collaboration on regional integration priorities that bring widespread benefits while minimizing adverse effects. Participating think tanks will conduct research on six key themes aligned with the AU’s Agenda 2063, the World Bank’s Africa Strategy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a strong focus on gender inclusion.
The initial priority themes are economic transformation and governance, climate change, food security, regional trade, human capital development, and digitalization. These areas have been chosen to support Africa’s most urgent policy needs.
The ATTP project is a five-year initiative backed by $50 million in funding from the World Bank Group. It will support the establishment of a functional think tank platform, increase gender-inclusive research output, and enhance policy coherence across regions.
In the medium term, the program is expected to improve policymaking and the execution of development plans at national, regional, and continental levels. In the long term, it seeks to support sustainable development through evidence-based policy decisions and help achieve the vision outlined in AU Agenda 2063.
Eligible applicants must form a consortium of 3 to 5 formally registered African think tanks, with one taking the lead role. Proposals should address at least four of the six priority themes and show a strong commitment to advancing regional integration through cross-border research and cooperation.
All proposal documents must be submitted in English, with the option of including a second version in another official language of the African Union. Entities or individuals ineligible or sanctioned by the World Bank Group are not allowed to participate.
