Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
The Tararua District Council invites not-for-profit groups, community organisations, and individuals within the district to apply for the District-wide Contestable Fund, an annual pot of $100,000 dedicated to enabling projects that foster a connected and thriving community.
Applicants must demonstrate how their proposed projects contribute to the well-being of the district by ensuring people are thriving, happy, safe, and well. Projects that honour local customs, traditions, and values, contribute to improving the natural environment and support primary industries, enhance community facilities and infrastructure, strengthen community wellbeing through innovation and adaptability, or achieve positive outcomes through collaborative efforts are particularly welcome.
Funding can be applied to a variety of project-related expenses, such as salaries, training and development, administration, office and utility costs, promotion, materials, and small capital items. However, the fund does not support activities promoting religious or political purposes, debt repayments, legal or medical expenses, core public services like education or primary healthcare, alcohol purchases, retrospective costs (unless required by grant conditions), large-scale physical works requiring consents, or services delivered outside the Tararua District.
The Council also recognises that some opportunities require urgent support and may be considered outside the regular rounds if submitted at least two weeks before a Council meeting and clearly justify the immediate need.
Successful applicants are required to submit a report within twelve months of receiving funding or upon project completion, detailing outcomes, lessons learned, and a clear accounting of how funds were spent.
