The Canada Council for the Art is now accepting applications for its International Translation Grant Program.
It aims to foster meaningful exchanges between artists and the public, highlighting the creativity, innovation, and excellence of Canadian artistic work. Through this program, artists, arts professionals, groups, and organizations have the opportunity to present and share their work with diverse communities across Canada and around the world.
Applicants can receive funding of up to $20,000 for translation work and up to $2,000 for promotional expenses, with a maximum total of $44,000 per calendar year.
Eligible applicants include artistic groups, First Nations, Inuit, or Métis groups or collectives, artistic organizations, supporting organizations, not-for-profit organizations representing First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities, as well as foreign publishers or theatres. Canadian publishers are not eligible to apply.
The program supports applications for the translation of Canadian-authored literary works into foreign languages, along with related promotional activities, and the translation and surtitling of Canadian-authored dramatic works for presentation abroad. Activities not supported include translation or subtitling of film or video, and translation of literary works into English or French.
