Deadline: 28-Jul-2025
The British Science Association (BSA) aims to broaden and diversify the community of people involved in science. They want to empower community groups to lead their own science-related activities, especially during the British Science Festival, to help new local audiences engage with science in meaningful ways.
To support this, BSA is offering grants of up to £1,000. The funding can be used for materials, equipment, room hire, refreshments, publicity, AV hire, volunteer expenses, fees for speakers or trainers, specific staff costs tied to the project, and transport or other activity-related expenses.
However, the grant cannot be used for large competition prizes, ongoing staff salaries, already-funded costs, or general overheads paid through other income sources.
To be eligible, applicants must be connected to a community-based organisation that directly engages people traditionally underrepresented in science. This includes communities experiencing deprivation, minoritised ethnic groups, faith-based groups, disabled or neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQI+ people, women (especially in physics or IT), and people either uninterested in or not actively engaged in science.
Applicants need to provide their organisation’s address, a short description of their work and audience, the proposed event date and location, an event overview, objectives for engaging the community, a budget outline, and their organisation’s bank details. They must also disclose any potential conflicts of interest, especially those tied to the British Science Festival or its affiliated institutions.
