The eighth phase of the London Community Energy Fund (LCEF) offers grant funding to support the growth and success of community-led sustainable energy projects across the capital.
The focus area of this program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in London, lead to collective action to reduce, manage and generate energy, promote community-led development and delivery of energy projects that provide direct benefit to the local community, increase community awareness and action on clean energy, increase the resilience of communities vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and high energy costs.
LCEF Phase 8 provides a total of up to £630,000 in funding through three streams. Stream one offers feasibility grants of up to £10,000 per project to support early-stage community energy project planning. Stream two provides development grants of up to £10,000 to help make projects investor-ready. Stream three allows for delivery grants of up to one-third of the capital value of the project, capped at £60,000.
This fund is especially targeted at small organisations with charitable aims operating within London. Applications are welcomed from community groups new to energy projects, and eligibility extends to a range of organisations including registered charities, community and voluntary groups, co-operatives, faith and equalities groups, social enterprises, community interest companies, community benefit societies, tenants’ and residents’ associations, tenant management organisations, housing associations, and schools working with community groups.
Projects must demonstrate measurable carbon savings, efficient use of funding, and no negative impact on air quality. Priority will be given to projects that offer added benefits such as renewable energy generation, reduced energy demand, energy storage integration, or demand-side response measures. Applications must also include proposals for job creation, skills development, and community inclusion.
