The Harwood Farm Trust Scholarship provides support for training and education of young people in farming and related agricultural sciences in New Zealand.
The objects of the Trust include the training and education of young people in farming. All types of farming are envisaged, together with on and off the job training and the provision of scholarships and prizes for the benefit of youth attending educational institutions in New Zealand which undertake agricultural courses.
The Trustees aim to provide several grants annually, with each grant valued between $1,000 and $3,000, the exact amount determined at the Trustees’ discretion. Typically, over 50 scholarship applications are received each year, reflecting the significant interest in supporting agricultural education and rural development.
To qualify for a scholarship, bursary, or grant from the Trust, applications must support activities related to agricultural education, research, or training. Eligible purposes include studies or projects in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, deer farming, cropping, and land productivity; education focused on farming in the East Coast hill country of New Zealand; enrollment in recognized agricultural institutions; the establishment of prizes or memorials; improvements to community facilities in the Weber district; and educational advancement for individuals connected to the East Coast of the North Island, particularly those in need.
It is essential that applicants complete their applications accurately, include a CV, and provide all necessary evidence demonstrating eligibility. The Trustees base their assessments solely on the information supplied by the applicant and their referees, making completeness and accuracy crucial.
Applications for the 2026 year must be submitted by Friday, 28th November 2025, with successful applicants to be notified during December.
