The HOT Caribbean Mapping Community Micro-Grant Program supports the growth of open mapping communities in the Caribbean by offering funding, mentorship, and resources to strengthen their impact. It is designed for emerging open-mapping groups in the region, providing both financial assistance and guidance to help them grow sustainably.
The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), a US-based NGO, uses maps and open data to support humanitarian response and sustainable development. By activating a global network, HOT delivers critical mapping data during major disasters. In this program, an OSM community is one that uses open mapping data to advance social and environmental goals such as resilience building, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development.
Grantees receive technical training in data collection, needs-based analysis, and user-centered tool or product development, tailored to their project’s needs. HOT may also share initial assessment findings, offering valuable insights into available data and potential collaborators. To streamline documentation, templates for required reports are provided.
The program aims to nurture resilient and impactful open-mapping groups that can expand their contributions to local communities. Funding includes a Caribbean Collective Mapping Event Grant of USD $500 and a Caribbean Collective Community Resilience Building Grant of USD $1,500.
