Deadline: 12-Aug-2025
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is inviting journalists from across Latin America to take part in the fourth edition of the “Lincoln Prize for Journalism on Urban Policy, Sustainable Development, and Climate Change.” This competition encourages investigative and educational journalism focused on land policy and sustainable urban development.
The Lincoln Institute promotes creative approaches to land use that address social, economic, and environmental challenges through education, research, and public outreach. Submissions should relate to the institute’s three areas of impact: land and water resource management, equitable land allocation for communities, and the relationship between land use and tax systems in creating thriving cities.
The competition offers a first prize of USD 3,000 for a single outstanding piece across any journalistic format, including print, web, podcast, or video. Additional second and third prizes of USD 2,000 and USD 1,000 may also be awarded.
Journalists can apply individually or as part of a team, provided the work was originally published between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. Submissions may include individual pieces or part of a news series and must have been published in a recognized media outlet. Unpublished works, academic articles, or technical reports are not eligible.
Previous winners cannot resubmit winning work as lead reporters, though they may join other teams. Entrants must also agree to have their names and work shared on the Lincoln Institute’s platforms, with copyright acknowledged when necessary.
Entries will be judged based on the disclosure of new or hidden public-interest information, the topic’s relevance to people’s lives, diversity of sources, innovation in data collection, and overall storytelling and production quality.
