Deadline: 24-Aug-2025
If you’re a local publisher looking for ways to monetize your content, adapt to shifting consumer habits, or navigate rapid technological change, the IPI Local News Accelerator could be the right opportunity for you.
The Local News Accelerator is a four-month program designed to help local media organizations improve their financial and editorial sustainability. Now in its third edition, the program provides tailored advisory services, practical tools, and strategic guidance to support growth and help publishers reach their audiences more effectively. Participants also join a global network of local news professionals.
The accelerator is aimed at local newsrooms that are either starting out or looking to pivot. Drawing from its experience with niche and regional publishers, IPI offers a structured approach to identifying challenges and developing viable solutions. Selected applicants receive personalized support through one-on-one consultations with IPI experts, along with access to industry specialists during the program.
Participants begin with a month-long needs assessment to define key challenges and map out possible solutions. The program then offers intensive training in areas such as audience research, strategic planning, and content formats like video, newsletters, and audio. There is also a strong focus on revenue diversification and digital business models.
Eligible applicants must be legally registered media organizations from any part of the world. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to local news, original journalism, and ethical media practices. Each applying organization must have at least two team members available to participate in the program for around four hours weekly throughout the four months.
Applicants should already have a business strategy and some audience research data. They must also be open to exploring new tools, technologies, and storytelling methods, and should have a clear vision for future growth. A proposal must be submitted outlining a current challenge and a proposed solution, which can evolve during the accelerator.
Applications must be submitted in English through the Jotform platform by the stated deadline. Once submitted, applications cannot be edited. A jury of experts will evaluate all applications based on the outlined criteria. Selected participants will be notified via email.
