Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
The Direct Aid Program (DAP), funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Australian High Commission in Tonga, offers a valuable opportunity for community-based development.
This small grants initiative supports projects that foster sustainable growth and strengthen the partnership between Tonga and Australia. Through the DAP, community groups, NGOs, and other not-for-profit entities in Tonga can apply for grants of up to 50,000 pa’anga. The program seeks proposals that demonstrate a strong development impact and align with the shared priorities of both nations.
However, international organisations and national government ministries are not eligible, and organisations that previously received funding without completing their projects successfully cannot reapply.
The DAP focuses on initiatives that deliver practical, measurable, and lasting benefits to communities. Priority is given to projects promoting gender equality, disability inclusion, environmental sustainability, climate action, and income generation. Applications that include community co-contributions, clear sustainability plans, and local support letters are particularly encouraged.
Eligible projects should be well-planned, transparent in budgeting, and achievable within one year. Each organisation must designate a focal point and maintain an active bank account to ensure proper financial reporting and progress updates to the High Commission. Through this program, Australia continues to empower local actors in Tonga to drive meaningful development outcomes that improve lives and foster community resilience.
