The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the Awards for Excellence 2021 to support businesses to build a strong economic community through proactive leadership in advocacy and networking.
The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce is part of a network of Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade that exist in virtually every community across Ontario and Canada. The Chamber network consists of 65,000 businesses provincially and 170,000 businesses nationally.
Locally, the Chamber has over 300 members and is recognized as this area’s official “Voice of Business.” This voice is an effective force in influencing issues and legislation affecting your business and their community.
It is a membership based and not-for-profit association that is led by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce is looking for well deserving businesses that represent Brockville’s ideals of hard work and dedication.
The Chamber serves small businesses, tourism oriented businesses, industry and institutions through these core functions:
- Advocacy on behalf of businesses to ensure a competitive business environment.
- Providing networking and recognition events.
- Distributing information pertinent to the operation of business and the business community in general.
- Delivering value added services including discounts, referrals and marketing opportunities.
- Offering a forum in which every business has input into the decisions that affect this community.
- Promoting initiatives that support the economic development of the region.
Categories
- Small Business of the Year honors a business with less than 20 employees that;
- Demonstrates continued business excellence and sustained financial growth and performance
- Continuously strives to exceed customer expectations
- Embraces outstanding commitment to quality
- Demonstrates positive impact in the community
- Business of the Year honors a business with 20 or more employees that;
- Demonstrates continued business excellence and sustained financial growth and performance
- Continuously strives to exceed customer expectations
- Embraces outstanding commitment to quality
- Demonstrates positive impact in the community
- Community Excellence Award honors a person, business or organization that;
- Demonstrates a notable contribution to the quality of life in the Brockville community
- Volunteers time and/or financial support to those activities that enrich the community
- Promotes a culture that puts an emphasis on community involvement
- Partners/supports with not-for-profit organizations, charities or other community efforts
- Tourism Award honors a business, organization or individual that;
- Demonstrated a notable contribution to the development of tourism in the Brockville region
- Act as an ambassador to the Brockville community
- Has a proven track record for innovative contribution resulting in an economic impact
- Business Person of the Year honors a business person or founder who;
- Displays a significant commitment to the success of both his/her business and the region as a whole
- Demonstrates business leadership and vision
- Serves as a positive role model or mentor for other business people
- Citizen of the Year honors an individual that;
- Demonstrates outstanding leadership and citizenship in the community
- Demonstrates exemplary vision, civic pride and commitment to the betterment of the community
- Young Professional of the Year honors a young professional under the age of 39 that;
- Stands out in their community for their professional demeanor and high level of community involvement
- Demonstrated extraordinary service and/or leadership contributing to the quality of life in the community
- Ben TeKamp Memorial Award honors business that is new or has reinvented itself to meet the changing needs;
- Must be in the initial stages of business development, innovation or reinvigoration
- Business history and start up effort should display some of the traits which Ben TeKamp was most noted for: perseverance, collaboration, leadership.
- Preference will be given to new business that have displayed strong creativity and innovation
- Core business concept should have clear promise of growth, sustainable practices and/or exceptional vision that will contribute to business success.
- Must display how the business can make a significant contribution to the larger community of Leeds and Grenville
- Must have demonstrated a significant effort to develop a business plan
Eligibility Criteria
- Nominees may be any business, organization or individual who has demonstrated a significant economic and/or social contribution to their community. All nominations will be kept confidential.
- Note: Nominees do not have to be a member of the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce in order to qualify.
Selection Criteria
The Award is open to anyone living in Leeds and Grenville who exemplifies the criteria established:
- Applicants or nominees must be in the initial stages of business development, innovation or reinvigoration.
- Business history and start up effort should display some of the traits which Ben TeKamp was most noted for: perseverance, collaboration, leadership.
- Preference will be given to new businesses that have displayed strong creativity and innovation.
- Core business concept should have clear promise of growth, sustainable practices and/or exceptional vision that will contribute to business success.
- Must display how the business can make a significant contribution to the larger community of Leeds and Grenville.
- Must have demonstrated a significant effort to develop a business plan.
