Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The Michael and Suzanne Borrin Foundation is inviting applications for the Te Pae Tawhiti Postgraduate Scholarship, aimed at building capacity in the legal community and fostering a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive legal system. The Foundation recognises that many students aspire to undertake postgraduate study in law but face barriers such as financial hardship, structural inequalities, and challenging personal circumstances. This scholarship supports talented law graduates in overcoming those obstacles.
The scholarship is open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who hold an LLB from a New Zealand institution or are in their final year of study. Applicants must demonstrate financial need that cannot be reasonably met through other sources. The Foundation has a funding pool of $120,000, which will be shared among multiple recipients.
Eligible proposals can include work related to legal research, legal writing, legal education, legal lectures, or any activity that promotes these areas. The Foundation is particularly interested in proposals that can have a significant and lasting impact on New Zealanders, address systemic issues, catalyse change, build capacity, and engage a broad legal audience including practitioners, policymakers, and academics.
Applications should include a completed proposal and personal statement (max seven pages), a CV (max three pages), academic transcripts, and the names of two referees. The Foundation will contact referees after the application deadline. Once all documents are prepared, applicants can submit their applications online, uploading all materials in PDF format.
