The World Food Programme (WFP) is calling for expressions of interests for Business Development, Mentoring, Coaching,?and Financing Literacy to communities in 10 Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Counties in Kenya.
Objectives of the Assignment

- Strengthen the capacity of project participants and value chain actors by equipping them with business development, mentorship, and coaching skills aimed at increasing incomes and generating employment opportunities within their communities.
- Enhance the financial literacy of project participants to support informed financial planning and sound investment decision-making.
- Facilitate improved access to credit by linking project participants to appropriate financing models that cater to the start-up, growth, and expansion needs of their enterprises.
- Support VSLAs/YSLAs in adopting and utilizing digital tools to improve record-keeping and overall financial management.

Scope of work
- Business development, coaching, mentorship, and financial literacy
- The primary goal of this assignment is to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of project participants, particularly young agripreneurs and members of VSLAs, BMUs, and other producer groups, to boost their incomes and create employment opportunities for youth within their communities.
- Through this process, agripreneurs are expected to expand the range of services they offer, either independently or in collaboration with other value chain actors. Participants will be supported to develop practical skills in business management, including record-keeping, digitization, basic financial literacy (profit and loss), and core principles of entrepreneurship. These foundational skills will also be transferred to linked producers and emerging young agripreneurs, enabling them to generate income and improve access to finance.
- Training and Capacity Building Approach
- This component will focus on developing a customized enterprise development, mentorship, and coaching curriculum tailored to the needs and contexts of the target participants. The process will include piloting the curriculum and rolling out a Training of Trainers (TOT) program for 530 trainers. These trainers will then support community-level training across the 10 targeted ASAL counties during the 20252026 implementation period.

Expected Results
- Key KPIs 1.530 ToT trained and cascading the training. 2.10,600 agripreneurs trained in business development and entrepreneurship based on tier (profiling exercise) 3.10,600 agripreneurs with business plans and proper records, which can be used for accessing finance. 4.5,300 enterprises accessing finance for business development. 5.53,000 youth reached by enterprises supported. 6.90% of enterprises reporting improved results

Eligibility Criteria
- Partner Qualifications:
- Should have at least 3 years of experience as a BDS and financial inclusion service provider.
- Thematic Experience
- Business Development Services (BDS), Curriculum Development, Financial Inclusion, MSME development, mentorship, coaching, youth entrepreneurship and agripreneur support across various contexts in Kenya and the broader East Africa Region. Youth engagement in rural community interventions will be particularly advantageous.
- Qualification of Staff/Experts
- At least 3 years of work experience in the BDS, financial inclusion, and rural agriculture development field for small-scale enterprises.
- Proven expertise in relevant value chains (traditional and emerging) in Kenyas ASALs, including poultry, bee, horticulture, and fish value chains, around Lake Turkana, covering both the Turkana and Marsabit Counties sides of the lake.
- Working experience with MSMEs, Youth Groups, Financial Service Providers, especially targeting young women.
- Sound knowledge about enterprise development interventions and market system development approach.
- Good analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven track record in developing business development strategies.
- Expertise in multi-stakeholder management.
- Ability to engage qualified female trainers is highly recommended.
