The World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting grant applications to support the provision of cash and in-kind food assistance to populations affected by disasters in Barbados. This initiative is managed by the WFP Caribbean Multi-Country Office (MCO), which works with Barbados and 21 other English and Dutch-speaking countries and territories in the region.
The MCO focuses on building national capacity in disaster risk management, social protection, and food systems, while also maintaining the ability to respond to emergencies when necessary. The current call for applications falls under the sector of food security and includes both cash and food assistance.
Selected partners will collaborate with WFP to implement relevant activities related to the distribution of cash-based transfers and in-kind food aid. The aim is to ensure that disaster-affected populations receive timely support to meet their basic needs, safeguard their livelihoods, and maintain proper nutrition levels.
Key outcomes of the programme include registering all individuals or households who receive assistance, verifying their identities where possible, and informing communities about the programme through public campaigns. Beneficiaries will also have access to feedback and grievance redress mechanisms.
Additionally, post-distribution and on-site monitoring will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of the programme and improve future implementations. The use of collected data will help refine programme design and execution.
Eligible activities may include distributing cards or vouchers, food distribution, conducting household assessments and registrations using digital tools, developing distribution plans, and engaging in community outreach and sensitisation. It also includes setting up community feedback mechanisms like hotlines and conducting both on-site and post-distribution monitoring.
This programme is focused geographically on Barbados, specifically targeting areas such as Saint Thomas.
