Deadline: 17-Oct-2025
The Australian Capital Territory Government has launched the 2026 Community Sport Facilities Program, offering meaningful funding to not-for-profit sport, recreation, and community organizations to help them develop facilities that promote active participation and social connection.
The program aims to support well-designed, accessible, and sustainable spaces that foster physical activity across Canberra.
There are two main funding streams available. The Facility Planning and Design Stream supports projects like feasibility studies and design plans with grants of up to AUD 250,000, to be completed within 12 months. The Capital Works / Construction Stream offers two options: single-year funding up to AUD 1,000,000 for projects that can be completed within a year, and multi-year funding of up to AUD 2,000,000 for projects that require up to two years for planning and construction.
To be eligible, applicants must be ACT-based not-for-profit sport, recreation, or community groups, or licensed clubs whose projects benefit community sport. They must hold public liability insurance and meet financial and strategic requirements, including having sound governance structures and a commitment to equitable access. Projects located outside of the ACT, commercially driven developments, or routine maintenance works are not eligible.
Applications must demonstrate the need for the project, benefits to the community, inclusive access, environmental sustainability, and adherence to design standards. Budgeting should include co-investment where possible and meet detailed planning and feasibility requirements for larger projects. Each application is assessed for alignment with strategic objectives and readiness for delivery.
This is a valuable opportunity for eligible organizations to secure substantial funding that can transform local sport and recreation infrastructure and enhance community wellbeing.
