Enabel has launched a call for proposals under the Wezesha Binti project, titled “Young people, especially young women, are empowered to thrive in a protective and gender-equal environment, to acquire education and skills, and to pursue decent work opportunities in Kigoma Region.” The initiative aims to empower young women and girls in Kigoma by increasing their access to legal education and protection services.
The general objective of this call is to promote legal awareness among young women, ensure access to youth-friendly legal aid and referral services, and strengthen the capacities of local institutions to deliver gender-transformative legal support and advocacy.
Specifically, the call seeks to increase awareness of legal rights concerning gender-based violence, child marriage, family and inheritance law, land and commercial law, and related civil procedures. It also aims to improve access to legal aid through community-based paralegals, police gender desks, One Stop Centres, and health facilities. Furthermore, the project will enhance the capabilities of Enabel’s partners and local service providers to offer legal education and advocacy tailored to young women’s needs.
The Wezesha Binti initiative operates across three result domains: access to quality secondary education for girls and vulnerable boys; improved access to decent and green employment for young people, especially women; and stronger community, family, and local government support for girls’ education, safety, health, and economic empowerment.
A total of EUR 250,000 is available under this call. Grants must fall between EUR 200,000 and EUR 250,000. The action must run for at least 24 months and no longer than 26 months.
Expected results include greater legal awareness among young women and girls, improved access to tailored legal services, and stronger institutional capacity for delivering gender-transformative legal programs.
To be eligible, applicants must be legal persons, non-profit private entities or foundations, and either national or international NGOs, women’s rights organizations, or feminist organizations. They must be established or represented in Tanzania and be directly responsible for managing the proposed action. Applicants must demonstrate experience in paralegal services and capacity-building in family, business, and financial law.
They should also have experience in areas such as girls’ education, skills training, or women’s economic empowerment. If not based in Kigoma, they must have previously implemented a program in the region or have partnerships with local women’s or paralegal organizations there. Additionally, applicants must have managed similar projects, held an active bank account for at least 24 months, and possess in-house financial and grant management capacity.
