Deadline: 25-Aug-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a call for expressions of interest for the implementation of the pilot “École Modèle” project in the M’Bera refugee camp located in Bassikounou, Hodh El Chargui, Mauritania.
Focus: Gender equality and women empowerment, training, capacity building and capacity development, youth leadership and participation, integration and reintegration, education in emergencies, school meals, skills development for adolescents, agricultural inputs, nutrition – general, gender-based violence, protection – general, energy, hygiene, natural resources, environmental pollution and climate action, and water.
The “École Modèle” project is a new integrated education initiative aimed at improving learning conditions for Malian refugees in the M’Bera camp. This pilot effort is part of the WFP’s strategic country plan for 2024–2028 and aligns with broader objectives to provide a coordinated and comprehensive response to the needs of displaced populations in Mauritania.
Mauritania currently hosts approximately 262,000 refugees and asylum seekers, including more than 235,000 Malian refugees. The majority reside in the Hodh El Chargui region, and over 66,000 are settled in the M’Bera camp. This initiative responds to the growing needs arising from the deteriorating security situation in Mali, which has triggered continuous displacement since 2012.
Applicants must demonstrate sector expertise in areas such as school feeding, agriculture, livelihoods, and gender-based protection. Local presence in the Hodh El Chargui region is critical, and organizations are expected to have ongoing programs and personnel operating in the camp.
The project evaluation will also consider the applicant’s experience with risk management, financial controls, program delivery in fragile environments, and the ability to report and measure impact using SMART objectives. Experience working with UN agencies, particularly WFP, will be an added advantage.
The deadline to apply is August 25, 2025, with project implementation expected to begin on September 15, 2025, and conclude by July 31, 2026.
