Deadline: 14-Jul-23
The DG Murray Trust (DGMT) is inviting applicants for the Sukuthula Unmute & Act Program that prevents and responds to gender-based violence (GBV) and generate learnings around a trust-based process of grant making.
The DG Murray Trust (DGMT), Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, and The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation have partnered for three years (2023-2026) with the aim of demonstrating that a coordinated funding approach focused on community-based organizations is needed to respond to gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa.
Purpose
- The partners have framed the purpose of the partnership as being:
- To bring a more coordinated funding effort to the community-level organizations working on gender-based violence (GBV), determinants of GBV, and the space at the intersection of GBV and HIV in South Africa.
- To deploy much-needed funding to community-based organizations (CBOs) that do not typically have access to funding.
- To explore a model of trust-based grant-making through multi-year, flexible funding with streamlined processes and systems, and more decision-making power in the hands of the grantee partners and communities most affected by GBV.
- To expand the networks in the GBV space and strengthen the capacity of CBOs and communities of practice.
What do they want to achieve?
- To support CBOs to deliver community-based prevention, response, and advocacy programs to reduce GBV in marginalized communities in four districts: Buffalo City and OR Tambo in the Eastern Cape, and Seshego and Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
