The S. L. Kirloskar CSR Foundation has announced the Kirloskar Art Grant, reflecting the Kirloskar Group’s commitment to using art and culture as tools for meaningful societal transformation. This annual grant is dedicated to supporting lens-based practitioners who push the limits of visual storytelling.
The grant is intended for artists whose work explores evolving relationships between people, environments, and systems in today’s world shaped by globalization, digital technology, and cultural shifts. It encourages projects that go beyond traditional aesthetics to interrogate dominant narratives and foster critical, imaginative visual discourse.
Proposals should engage with one or more key themes: sustainability and environment, science and innovation, biodiversity and nature, culture and heritage, or community and social change. The selected artist will receive INR 5 lakh to produce a new body of work, with up to 35% of the amount permitted as an artist honorarium.
In addition to funding, the recipient will have opportunities to exhibit the completed project at Kirloskar Group locations and other prominent venues across India. The grant is open to lens-based artists and photographers working in documentary, conceptual, experimental, or new media formats, who are based in India and hold Indian citizenship. Individuals, artist duos, and collectives are eligible to apply.
Applicants must show the ability to complete the proposed work within a five-month period. To apply, candidates must submit a project proposal of up to 1,000 words outlining the concept, scope, and approach. They must also provide an artist statement (max. 500 words), a portfolio of 5–10 images or videos with captions and technical details, a CV with exhibition and publication history, and a detailed budget outlining the use of funds.
The budget may include consumables directly related to the project, such as film rolls, SD cards, or printing materials. Equipment purchases are generally not covered unless pre-approved. All application materials must be submitted via email in one message.
