Deadline: 15-Aug-2025
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation has announced the return of the National Kitchen Garden Awards for a second year. These awards celebrate the creative and community-focused ways educators and young Australians are using their kitchen gardens to explore health, wellbeing, and sustainability.
Whether it’s running breakfast clubs, student-led composting, or cooking with homegrown vegetables, the awards highlight inspiring school-based projects. Winners will be recognized for their innovative use of kitchen gardens to enhance learning and community engagement.
Each of the nine category winners will receive over $4000 in value. This includes a $1000 grant to improve kitchen and garden infrastructure, plus a product pack filled with garden tools and goodies. The pack features a WaterUps bundle, organic solutions from Seasol, a voucher from Fleming’s Nurseries, and a subscription to ABC Organic Gardener Magazine.
Winners will also receive a 2L cask of Mount Zero Olives’ extra virgin olive oil, premium native ingredients from Indigiearth, a handcrafted timber trophy, and signed books by Stephanie Alexander and Alice Zaslavsky. In addition, winners will get a two-year membership or extension to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, which offers professional development, online resources, printed materials, and five-day-a-week support.
The awards are open to early childhood, primary, and secondary schools running or planning to join the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. Schools can enter one or more award categories.
Applying is easy—just answer a short question about your project in 200 words or less. Submitting images is optional, but highly encouraged to support your entry.
