Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The United Nations Development Programme has launched the second phase of the Kurima project in Angola, offering a new opportunity for community-led initiatives that advance sustainable development.
This initiative is designed to strengthen the socio-economic resilience of rural women, youth, and their families while promoting environmentally friendly practices and long-term sustainability.
The program focuses on two key regions, Bembe municipality in Uíge Province and Dombe Grande in Benguela Province. By targeting these areas, the initiative aims to address systemic barriers faced by rural communities while creating opportunities for women and young people to actively participate in the transformation of their local economies.
At the heart of this opportunity lies a commitment to community empowerment through clean energy, agriculture, and digital innovation. The project will prioritize access to renewable energy by electrifying female-led cooperatives and rural communities. This shift to clean energy is expected to boost sustainable livelihoods and open new pathways for economic growth.
Another important element of the program is capacity building for national partners. By strengthening institutions and unlocking access to support services, the initiative seeks to accelerate the transformation of rural economies. This includes promoting resilient agricultural practices through enhanced business development opportunities, digital literacy, and financial services. Together, these interventions aim to build long-term socio-economic resilience while tackling gender inequalities and ensuring inclusivity.
Applicants are invited to submit proposals that align with the program’s three interlinked goals: expanding clean energy access, building institutional capacity, and improving agricultural productivity. To ensure balanced support across regions, the funding will provide up to USD 90,000 per province, with a total budget allocation of USD 180,000. Projects must also integrate an exit strategy to guarantee sustainability beyond the program’s implementation period.
This funding opportunity highlights UNDP’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals by investing in rural women, youth, and local communities. By fostering innovation and strengthening local capacity, the Kurima project provides a pathway to build stronger, more resilient rural economies in Angola.
