Deadline: 10-Sep-2025
The European Commission has launched a call for proposals titled “Civil Society Organizations as Actors of Development and Governance in Jamaica.” This initiative aims to strengthen local civil society organizations (CSOs) as independent, participatory actors promoting democratic governance, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable development at the national level.
The main objective is to empower CSOs to play a more active role in policy-making and development. The action focuses on creating an enabling environment for local organizations and increasing their capacity to participate in public affairs. The emphasis is also on inclusive governance, gender equality, human rights, climate action, and digital empowerment.
Priority areas include building CSO capacity to engage in national policy dialogue and the implementation of EU and national development programs. It also supports CSOs in promoting an enabling environment, countering digital threats like hate speech and harassment, and building legal and technical resilience.
The call encourages initiatives that focus on gender equality, youth inclusion, and the empowerment of marginalized groups. This includes strengthening the participation of women and youth in decision-making, supporting gender-responsive planning, and tackling harmful stereotypes through collaborative efforts.
Projects that promote climate action and environmental protection are also a priority. Eligible activities may focus on advocacy, supporting vulnerable communities, promoting sustainable practices, and advancing the green transition. Initiatives should align with EU environmental goals and contribute to transparent, accountable climate governance.
A total of EUR 1,069,000 is available under this call. Individual grant amounts must range between EUR 200,000 and EUR 350,000. Projects must have a duration of 24 to 48 months.
Eligible applicants must be non-profit civil society organizations legally established in Jamaica. They must also be directly responsible for the project and not act as intermediaries. Local networks, community-based organizations, and private-sector non-profit institutions are all welcome to apply if they meet the criteria.
