The Greater Geelong’s Community Strengthening Grants present a valuable opportunity for local not-for-profit groups to lead projects that promote wellbeing, build stronger social connections, and foster inclusive community life.
Designed to empower grassroots efforts, this program offers up to $10,000 per project from a total funding pool of $203,000, supporting initiatives that can have a lasting impact across the region.
This year’s grants focus on strengthening community participation and resilience, particularly through initiatives that support mental and physical wellbeing. In a new update, equipment grants have been separated into a distinct stream, giving applicants more clarity and focus when shaping their proposals.
To be eligible for funding, applicants must be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation, an unincorporated group working under the guidance of an auspice, or a registered charitable organisation. Being eligible does not guarantee funding, but it does mean that your proposal can be considered for assessment.
However, there are some groups who cannot apply. Ineligible applicants include businesses, individuals operating as sole traders with an active ABN, individuals without an ABN, schools or learning institutions, and any applicant with an outstanding grant acquittal with the City of Greater Geelong. Entities that have failed to meet the terms of past funding agreements, are in the process of winding up operations, experiencing insolvency or bankruptcy, or have unresolved debts or legal proceedings with the City are also not eligible to apply.
To support the application process, the City is offering free workshops and information sessions throughout August. These sessions, delivered both online and in person, will guide potential applicants through the process, explain the funding criteria, and provide practical tips on how to submit a strong, well-structured application.
This program is not just about financial support—it’s a chance to bring local ideas to life, strengthen community ties, and invest in the people and places that make Greater Geelong thrive. For organisations ready to make a difference, the Community Strengthening Grants offer a timely and supportive pathway forward.
