Deadline: 10-Aug-2025
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is inviting communicators to participate in a media workshop focused on Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD) resulting from climate change. The workshop will take place in the Sundarbans from 18 to 20 September 2025. It aims to deepen participants’ understanding of NELD impacts, which are often overlooked in policy discussions.
The sessions will examine how these losses disproportionately affect women and will emphasize the importance of sharing stories of resilience and adaptation. The goal is to increase recognition of the cultural, social, and environmental dimensions of climate change and promote more equitable and grounded responses.
Participants will go on a field visit to engage directly with a coastal community and witness the challenges caused by climate change. With the guidance of EJN mentors, they will learn to apply the solutions journalism approach, develop story ideas, and collaborate in small-group discussions to refine their reporting plans.
Selected participants will have their travel, meals, and accommodation costs fully covered by the organizers. The workshop is open to communicators based in India working in print, digital, radio, or TV media. Priority will be given to applicants from West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
Applications must be submitted in English. Women and early- to mid-career professionals are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must commit to attending all workshop days, have some experience reporting on environmental or social issues with a climate focus, and be proficient in English. They must also agree to allow republication of any content produced during the workshop.
Applicants who are employed must submit a letter of approval from their supervisor. All applicants must also provide two published samples or links to their previous work.
