Deadline: 22-Jul-2025
The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is inviting applications for Dwell Here 2026, a one-year residency program open to visual artists, designers, architects, curators, and professionals from related humanities fields both in Ireland and internationally. Successful applicants will undertake independent, site-responsive research while engaging with the Museum’s vibrant creative community.
The residency centers around seasonal Research Assemblies held as week-long forums. These gatherings bring together mentors, peers, and residents for communal activities and interdisciplinary dialogue. Participants are expected to share their research and creative processes through workshops, exhibitions, talks, performances, or other studio-based activities with onsite and invited audiences.
During the residency, participants will engage with IMMA’s programming, staff, collections, archives, and the site itself. They will also take part in local and off-site visits, connecting with Ireland’s wider arts communities and infrastructure. Informal exchanges such as co-working, co-hospitality, and co-living are integral to the residency experience.
Dwell Here encourages residents to commit to a deep reflection on the urgency of place and time. The program explores themes such as Technologies of Peace, focusing on commemorative landscapes and sustainable coexistence; The Irish Paradigm, reflecting on Ireland’s edge-of-Europe position and its relationship with cultural centers; and The Museum as a Site of Vibration, which considers how museums can highlight cultural shifts and marginalized histories within the legacies of empire.
Benefits include free onsite accommodation separate from the studio, access to an IMMA studio if needed, and essential amenities such as electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, and parking. Residents receive a monthly bursary of €1000 for agreed months, plus coverage for one return journey for those living outside Ireland and pre-approved materials or programming expenses. Some accommodation may also be suitable for partners or small families, with prior discussion.
IMMA welcomes Expressions of Interest from artists and thinkers committed to research excellence, whether based in Ireland or abroad, who are ready to engage fully with this unique residency opportunity.
