EcoMatters Environment Trust is organising this year’s awards, in partnership with Auckland Council, as part of the aspirational goal for Tamaki Makaurau to be zero waste by 2040.
The Trust is gearing up to celebrate Auckland’s outstanding leaders who truly embody the zero waste kaupapa, in this year’s Zero Waste Awards.
Categories
- Rangatahi Leadership: This category celebrates ‘leaders in the making’ (individuals or groups of rangatahi/young people) (under 18 years) showing commitment and leadership to reducing waste in their communities. The inspiration for translation of this category is a young net (person) who weaves the land and weaves people.
- Growing the Movement: This category celebrates ‘local heroes’ (individuals or groups) raising awareness, inspiring change, and spreading their tautok. The inspiration for translation of this category is the face of the zero waste movement.
- Community Collaboration: This category celebrates local businesses or social enterprises ‘walking the talk’ demonstrating commitment in building community partnerships to reduce waste. The inspiration for translation of this category is clean air, community.
- Cultural Connection: This category celebrates individuals or groups ‘keeping it local’ using culturally appropriate approaches to educate, inspire and manaki/care for their communities to reduce waste. The inspiration for translation of this category is choose culture, choose guardianship.
- Innovation: This category celebrates zero waste initiatives ‘making it happen’, demonstrating innovation, the circular economy in action, and promising results.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nominations are open to people, groups and organisations right across Auckland, who are working hard to help achieve the zero waste vision.
- The majority of their work must have taken place in the Auckland area, during 2020 and 2021.
