Deadline: 31-May-2026
The Whangārei District Council (WDC) has opened its Community Association Grant, offering resident groups, ratepayer associations and marae trusts a modest annual grant of $750 to support their local community activities.
The fund is available to eligible organisations that play a recognised role in advocacy and uplift within the Whangārei District, enabling them to cover items like meeting costs, communications, or an administrator honorarium.
Applications can be submitted at any time while the fund remains open, with outcomes typically advised within 21 days of receipt. Eligible applicants are organisations that meet WDC’s general community-funding criteria, have a constitution or trust deed focussing on supporting their local community, operate within the Whangārei District on a place-based or hapū basis, and are recognised by both community members and the Council as representing local voices.
To apply, organisations must provide documentation such as their constitution, most recent AGM minutes, the chairperson’s report, latest annual financial statements, and verified bank details (if not funded in the past two years). The online submission is processed through the SmartyGrants portal, and dedicated support is offered via email or phone for those needing assistance.
This funding opportunity is well-suited to small community groups seeking consistent administrative support, visibility and recognition of their efforts in the Whangārei District. By offering flexible access and a fast-track decision process, WDC strengthens local capacity for community development, participatory engagement and grassroots empowerment.
