Deadline: 7-Jan-22
The NextCycle Michigan has launched the applications for the Intergovernmental Initiatives & Public Private Partnerships (I2P3) Programme.
Intergovernmental Initiatives & Public Private Partnerships (I2P3) teams are challenged to bring forward initiatives which will accelerate recycling and composting in their communities to support the growth of regional circular economies through collaboration and partnerships.
All applicants are expected to propose projects that help create resilient and adaptable communities through collaboration with others (public, private, or non-profits) to improve cost-effectiveness, benefit from economies of scale, and encourage implementation of solutions.
Teams accepted into the I2P3 Innovation Challenge Track will participate in an incubator experience designed to take their idea to the next level through:
- Individualized project plan development and assistance
- Access to public sector, industry and investment experts
- Focus on partnership building and public-private funding opportunities
- Consulting support
- Workshops, training modules and networking events
Who should join?
Public entities are invited to lead teams either as the individual entity or collection of public and private entities. Members of teams collaborating on an initiative to improve regional recycling and composting access and recovery could include:
- Local governments
- Regional agencies
- Public works and sustainability departments
- Community foundations
- Tribal groups and organizations
- Universities
- For-profit businesses
- Non-profits
Example Projects
- Local communities and county collaborating to establish a Regional Authority.
- A City partners with a local business to use an old warehouse to establish a comprehensive dropoff.
- A two-city metro area adopts complimentary policies to increase commercial recycling.
- A tri-county area collaborates to develop a regional sustainable materials management plan that will improve recycling accessibility in all three counties.
- A community partners with regional MRF and national brand, making equipment upgrades to expand the range of materials accepted and implementing a residential engagement program to improve the quality of the recycling stream.
Eligibility Criteria
- A Public sector entity is expected to be lead on each I2P3 team application and should include one partner. A team can be made up of a collection of public sector entities (e.g., three townships, a city and a county, three cities, a city and an NGO), or a public sector and private sector collaboration (e.g., a township and a large retailer). Public entities eligible to lead a team include:
- City or Community Government
- County Government
- Local Authority
- Tribal Governments
- Non-Profits
- At least one partner is required to be identified with a letter of support. Additional partners may be identified and added during the track experience, but early inclusion ad consideration for partners is expected. They anticipate that successful applicants will seek out DEI partners and/or explicitly recognize how their project serves under resourced members of the community.
