Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
Maitland City Council is offering the Community Projects Grant Program to support local groups and organisations in delivering community-driven initiatives that enhance wellbeing and strengthen the community.
The focus areas of the Community Projects Grant Program are community strengthening – capacity building: projects that meet an identified need for the local community, foster opportunities for community participation and allow the community to connect and celebrate with one another; creative community – arts and culture: projects that provide opportunities across a broad range of arts, culture and/or local history activities that enhance the quality of life of the community; and healthy active living – leisure and recreation: projects that provide opportunities for leisure and recreational activities with the aim of improving health, fitness and quality of life of the community.
The program offers grants of up to $6,000 for specific purposes, with funding not intended as a recurrent or permanent source. Proposals may include emergency support, outreach programs, capacity building activities, community events, professional skills development, or creative workshops. However, funding will not be provided for ongoing salaries, large infrastructure projects, recurrent operational costs, projects funded for more than three years and now ongoing, donations, overtly religious or political activities, refundable bonds, or projects lacking appropriate approvals.
Eligibility is open to incorporated community organisations, voluntary groups, or community groups servicing a demonstrated need in the Maitland Local Government Area. Unincorporated groups or individuals may apply through an appropriate incorporated body willing to auspice the project. Organisations can submit more than one application, but they must prioritise their projects. Repeat funding for the same project within three years may be considered only if funds are available or if applicants can demonstrate sustainable co-funding sources.
Applicants are required to match the requested grant amount, with at least 40 percent of the contribution in cash and the remaining 60 percent either in cash or in-kind. This ensures strong community ownership and sustainability of the supported initiatives.
