Deadline: 04-Nov-2025
The National Churches Trust’s Large Grant is now available for Christian places of worship across the UK that are in need of urgent structural repairs or looking to enhance their facilities for wider community use.
Grants of up to £50,000 are being offered to support significant projects, though the highest-level awards are extremely limited and reserved for those demonstrating a very strong case for investment.
To qualify for this funding, repair projects must have a total cost of over £80,000 including VAT, while projects involving the installation of kitchens or accessible toilets must cost more than £30,000. The grant will never cover more than 50% of the total project cost, so applicants must already have secured at least half of their required funding.
The opportunity is open to both listed and unlisted Christian places of worship from any denomination, provided they are located in the UK and host at least six public worship services each year. Buildings must be more than 30 years old and originally constructed as places of worship. The works must be directly related to the building itself or attached to it.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that their church is open to the public for a minimum of 100 days a year beyond worship, or that it will be after the project is completed. In addition, a safeguarding policy must be in place, and all necessary permissions, such as planning consent or denominational approvals, must already be secured before applying.
The first stage of the application process involves completing an eligibility quiz. Only those who can meet all the stated requirements will be able to proceed. This grant programme represents a vital opportunity to support essential repairs and improvements that will help secure the long-term future and wider community role of churches across the country.
